In The Landscape Deeper In, author and poet William Bridges has gathered 30 years of poetry into his first general collection. Widely published in magazines and chapbooks, Bridges's work has drawn praise for its keen visual observation and breadth of subject matter, from domestic life ("Quarreling Through the Louvre") to meditations on art, travel, and history. The poems also cover a wide geographical range, from Taiwan to Peru to the remote Scottish island of St. Kilda. Another poet, Mike O'Connor, calls them "beautifully crafted, of unerring music and grace of line." He adds, "When I think of a Bill Bridges poem, I think of an elegance and classicism that are never far removed from the daily course of things."

William Bridges has had a career divided between active journalism, teaching, and writing/editing. He has been a foreign correspondent in Germany and a newspaper editor in the U.S. and Taiwan. A selection of his poems, "Eye," was published by Pleasure Boat Studio in its chapbook series. His poems have appeared in magazines, including the Beloit Poetry Journal, Roanoke Review, Plains Poetry Journal, and Passages North. He taught journalism for many years at Franklin College in Indiana. Other writings include a textbook, "Dear Viola: Writing, Reporting, and Editing for the Student Journalist," and a childhood memoir, "Under the Heaven Tree." He now does freelance editing, including recent work on an encyclopedia of Siberia and the Russian North.
