Codependency defined is a set of maladaptive, compulsive behaviors learned by family members in order to survive in a family which is experiencing great emotional pain and stress. These behaviors are passed on from generation to generation whether alcoholism is present or not.

Codependency is also defined as an emotional, psychological and behavioral condition that develops as a result of an individual's prolonged exposure to, and practice of a set of oppressive rules - rules which prevent the open expression of feelings as well as the direct discussion of personal and interpersonal problems.

In the book I Got You BABE, A Codependency Guide for Relationships, much information about Beliefs, Attitudes, Behaviors, Esteem, and Emotion is shared. Material about codependency and related illnesses has been collected over the years of reading about this illness, attending codependency classes, and working a twelve step program of recovery.
