In Ripples From the Darkness the poems expand ever outward toward crescendos of the sacred and the macabre, madness and the holy. The currents start small with childhood follies, then roll outward toward tales from the hood, and loves found and lost. They swirl around beautiful and frightful goddesses in the land of myth. The crescendos begin with the face of God whose gaze destroy mortal men. Then comes the cascade over the edge into the abyss beyond even God.

We then encounter a Little Book of Horrors where the ripples roll back again from the light into darkness. Once more the eddies start small with the absurdities of "Dr. Frogenstein"--then ever expand past tales from the crypt, terrors from space, the Countess of blood, the man who sold his soul--until they reach the final crescendos in the shadows of the supernatural. At last with Imitations of the Holy the ripples emerge again into the light: traveling the dangers of the hood, the mysteries of the Far East. Then comes the final culmination in the Second Coming of the Christ.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

George Tyrrell is a retired psychologist who traces his namesake back to the 19th century Father George Tyrrell, the Jesuit excommunicated for making sense of Christianity. This present author is of Jungian persuasion, which brings his interests to myth and spirituality along with the foibles of the psyche. His previous work is The Book of Thomas the Doubter inspired by the ancient Nag Hammadi texts. His non-fiction books on spirituality are presently in the making. Tyrrell's autobiographical poems of childhood in the hood, of loves gained and lost, soon drift into crisis of faith and the quest for the mystical God beyond God. Let us voyage with him into those realms of light and darkness if we dare.
