ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Carl Steiger, alias Dr. Chuck Breuer was born in Charleston SC. With his cousin, Charles M. Montanese, the pair first went to sea on a USCG cutter stationed in Charleston where Charles's father was a 1st Class Boatswains Mate. On Memorial Day dependents were invited aboard and taken to the Outer Banks in the Gulf Stream for a full day of fishing and sunning. Later, as boys, both nearly died (together with Victor Montanese, Charles's younger brother. The three boys were 11, 10 and 8 respectively on a real-life rescue attempt aboard a twenty-four foot cabin boat commanded by Charles Sr. The craft stalled at sea during an unexpected hurricane! Oddly enough all three boys joined the Coast Guard themselves on leaving high school, in spite of experiencing a hurricane at sea!

Today, Dr. Breuer is a retired Psychologist free to write about his days of yore as a sea going cop. He is married to the former Ann Williams Breuer, R.N. The couple have three grown children, five grand children, and reside in Edgefield SC.
